Our Story

A Tradition of Marksmanship Since 1857

The Hawaii Rifle Association is one of the oldest continuously organized shooting associations in the United States. Founded in 1857, it grew out of a simple civic idea: that responsible firearm ownership and skilled marksmanship are disciplines worth teaching, practicing and passing on.

Through the territorial years, statehood and the changes of the modern era, the association has remained an educational and community institution. It does not sell firearms and it does not operate as a commercial training business. Its work is volunteer-driven: supporting affiliated clubs, encouraging safety instruction and giving Hawaii's firearm community accurate, measured information.

Today the association serves members on every major island, from public range volunteers at Koko Head to junior marksmanship programs on Maui and Hawaii Island.
